NBBJ and the Salk Institute have worked together for nearly 35 years, on a master plan that promotes collaboration and discovery, upgrades infrastructure, and optimizes systems performance. Completed projects have included a below-grade research support facility with a park-like green roof, the Chemistry & Proteomics Laboratory, a BSL-3 suite, the Biophotonics Laboratory, and central plant upgrades.
Working within established guidelines and recognizable material palettes, the plan embraces the existing context but also proposes how the Salk Institute can look to the future: via additional proposed projects including a research laboratory building, core facility, fitness center, greenhouses, landscapes, and underground parking.
